John Mitchler and Charlie Feris will host the 2012 Convention on Mount Hood on June 8-9, 2012 after their proposal was selected at the Mississippi Highpointers Convention (defeating a proposal for California).

With nearly 20 months until the convention, how can someone with little to no experience in glacier climbing (like me) prepare for the trip? And what kind of equipment should I be investing in? I live in GA, so there’s not many mountains like Hood around. This might be a great opportunity (for me, and others) to hit one of the more difficult highpoints, so I want to do everything I can to prepare for a possible trip to the summit.
