President’s Message on 2004-05 Election and Service Award Nominations

Members of the Highpointers Club,

It seems that at this time of year, I have the same message. In this issue of the Newsletter, you will receive a ballot for election of five members to serve on the Highpointers Club Board of Directors. Remember, the Board members you elect this year will serve for three years. During that time, they will comprise one-third of the Board which sets the policies of the Highpointers Club. Voting is simple, it just takes a little time. Read the candidate’s statements and vote for whom you believe to be best qualified. I urge all of you to exercise your right to vote. It is your Club and voting is a way for all of you to participate in what makes the Club great.

Stuart Smith First American To Climb 7 Summits Plus North and South Poles

Everest News reports that Texan Stuart Smith has become the first American to complete the Adventure Grand Slam. The AGS consists of the Seven Summits plus the North and South Poles. Smith finished the Slam on December 28, 2004 on a 725 mile ski all the way trip from Hercules Inlet on the west coast of Antarctica to the South Pole. Articles about Stuart on the web here.

Mario Locatelli in Official 2004 Denali Climbing Report
Mario Locatelli, from Montana, who became the oldest (71 years 6 months) to summit McKinley was featured in the Official McKinley Climbing Report for 2004. Incidentally Denali was his 50 state completion. You probably recognize Mario’s famous summit headstand pose.
