New Jersey Konvention 2009 (Tentative)

The expected dates are that the first gathering for the convention will be at Urbanski Farms for a Barbecue beginning approximately 6:00 on Wednesday, July 29th 2009. 

Other activities will be on Thursday (Registration begins at Best Western - Hunt’s Landing) the 30th and Friday the 31st.

The “Group Hike” and Konvention will be on Saturday the 1st of August. Breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings!!!

Tentative Convention Information:

The 2009 Highpointer’s Convention will be headquartered at the Best Western at Hunt’s Landing, Matamoras, Pennsylvania (1-84, Exit 53). Registration and all major events will take place or begin at the host hotel.

Rooms can be booked by calling the Inn directly at (570) 491-2400.  Highpointers will be afforded a weekday rate of $109.00 per room and a weekend rate of $114.00 per room. More information on the Best Western can be found at their web site www.bestwesternhuntslanding.com. although the highpointer room rate is not available online. There are also a number of other hotels, bed and breakfasts, and camping sites in the immediate vicinity.

6:00 pm - Kickoff Barbecue at Urbanski Farms - The Urbanski family hosts a barbecue at Urbanski Farms, Nuangola, Pennsylvania (1-81, Exit 169). All highpointers are invited to the NJ09 opening event. All highpointers are encouraged to camp out on the banks of the Little Wapwallopen Creek and participate in the East versus West Highpointer Softball Game. There will also be space available for motor homes or pull behind trailers.

7:00 am - Roger’s Excellent Adventure - Join Roger Rowlett on his train trip to the Big Apple. Roger’s trip will include a visit to ground zero, a journey to the highest man-made point in NYC (the Empire State Building), and a visit to at least one of the NYC borough highpoints. If there are other sights you wish to see in NYC, feel free to deviate from Roger’s planned stops.

Sometime in the morning -  Caravan to Convention Headquarters - We will be leaving Urbanski Farms for the 90 minute trip through the beautiful Pocono Mountains to Best Western Hunt’s Landing.

3:00 pm - Registration Begins at Best Western Hunt’s Landing

7:30 pm - Sunset at High Point Monument - Join us for a beautiful sunset at the High Point Monument. Live entertainment will be provided as the sun goes down.

8:00 am - Climbing in the Gunks - Join Bill Urbanski on a rock climbing adventure at the Gunks in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York. The Gunks provide some of the best technical class five rock climbing on the East Coast.

9:00 am - Raft the Delaware River - Enjoy a river rafting adventure on the Delaware River. Stop off to see the NJ/PA/NY tri¬point marker.

6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Happy Hour at Best Western Hunt’s Landing - Steve Urbanski and Roger Rowlett are your hosts at Happy Hour on the patio in the shadow of High Point, New Jersey. Entertainment provided. Free beer and hors d’oeuvres, along with a cash bar.

Saturday, August 1,2009

7:00 am to 9:00 am - Pancake Breakfast - Pancake breakfast at Best Western Hunt’s Landing, featuring Urbanski Farms Pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup.

10:00 am - Group Hike to High Point New Jersey - Join your hosts Roger and Steve for some watermelon on the summit of New Jersey’s highest point. You can drive up to the summit or hike the 2.5 mile round trip along the Appalachian Trail.

6:00 pm - Annual Banquet- -Join us in the main ballroom of the Best Western Hunt’s Landing for the annual banquet and “Roast of Don Holmes.”

Morning - “‘Til Next Year Breakfast” - Bid your friends a fond farewell over a cappuccino in the Hunt’s Landing Dinning Room.

Other events include: county highpointing, antiquing in the Poconos, tri-point trips, kayaking in the Delaware, golfing, fishing, and buying cheap gas at one of the many full service stations in NJ.
