Member Larry Floyd Writes Book on Oklahoma Trails

Highpointer Larry Floyd and his friend and Kent Frates have written a book on hiking trails in Oklahoma. The book lists 58 trailheads. Their favorite hike is Black Mesa with Charons Garden in the Wichita Mountains a close second.

Get Your Name on the Wall of Recognition on Hawkeye Point

Work by 18 FFA students is continuing on Hawkeye Point. The Highpointers Foundation has contributed $4,000 to the project. Individual highpointers are getting their name on a Wall of Recognition for donating $50 or more.

UPDATE MAY 3, 2010 Penn Virginia has moved to a new location and changed its legal name. Please send the release to the new Penn Virginia. If you are sending to any other address than the one a 7 Sheridan Square, you sending it to the wrong address.

The summit of Black Mountain is private property and is surrounded coal mines.  Due to this, your visit requires a waiver.  You can now get it by downloading the file.

Did Obama Do A Stealth Visit to DC Highpoint?

Blogs and news outlets were literally all a twitter on April 14 after President Obama paid a visit to Fort Reno without his usual press contingent. Blogs speculated that he was off on some nefarious secret mission. Some blogs somehow thought it was impossible that he might he want to see his daughter play soccer without the press interfering. We of course suspect that the real reason was that he wanted to see the new Highpoint Club benchmark.

The article notes:  Mount Sunflower is located entirely on private ground, land owned by Ed Harold’s sister, Rae Marie Jones, BigFork, Mont. Harold manages the quarter-section of ground that includes the high point, along with other ground he either has enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program or grazes cattle on.
