Events At Highpointers Convention Aug. 4-5 in North Carolina

The Highpointers 2006 Convention will be Aug. 4-5 near Mount Mitchell, NC.

Schedule for Non-Convention Activities (TBA) (Wednesday – Friday)

Based on suggestions from local members, there will be several non-club events to make the trip to North Carolina more enjoyable. The latest information (along with other hike hook ups) will be posted on www.highpointers.org, in future newsletters and at the Blue Ridge Conference Center during the convention. So please check them out on a regular basis.

Wednesday and Thursday, August 2nd & 3rd: Hikes and Waterfalls – We have several members that are pretty well informed on these subjects and plans are in the works for these. Biltmore Estate, Grandfather Mountain and possibly some of the “Southern Six-Pack”? More information will be posted when available.

Friday, August 4th: Craft Shows – On this weekend there are several activities in Asheville. The Biltmore Village is having their annual craft fair and the Asheville Civic Center is also having their annual craft fair.

NC 2006 Convention Activities

*** On-Site Check-In Fri Aug 4th (High Noon) Blue Ridge Conference Center (Super 8 ) will host Check-in and the Highpointers Merc from noon Friday through 2pm Saturday. The Merc will move to Taylor Ranch for the Banquet Saturday evening.

*** Burger’s & Dawg’s, Fri Eve Aug 4th: (5-7pm) Get-together Social at Blue Ridge Conference Center (Super 8 ). Included in Convention Fee, featuring hamburgers (veggie burgers), hot dogs, all the trimmings, soft drinks and dessert. A donation keg is also in the works. Located along the Swannanoa River located just behind our host site. Mix and mingle and let the kids run free. Not far from the host campground either. Don’t forget your lawn chairs!!!

*** Gathering at the Blue Ridge CC for Mt. Mitchell (TBA) – Sat Aug 5th: (9am) You’re on your own for breakfast and making travel arrangements to, and from, Mt Mitchell, however, sign up sheets will be posted on Friday and Saturday morning at The Blue Ridge CC (Super 8 ) to facilitate car-pooling since there is much to do this day. The BRCC / Merc will be open for sales, hike hook-ups and car pooling to attractions / hikes.

*** 2006 NC Konvention Banquet – Sat, Aug 5th: (6–10pm w/ Social Hour at 5 pm Sharp!) At Taylor Ranch. – Country Style Ribs, Grilled Chicken, Corn-on-the-Cob, Ranch Style Beans, Coleslaw, Rolls, butter and Assorted Homemade Deserts. Cash bar. Our guest speaker, Stuart Smith will begin his presentation at approximately 8:30 pm.

The Convention Fee is “All Inclusive”. You must register for the Convention to be eligible for the Club Events at the BRCC and to enter Taylor Ranch property.
