      Hi,

It was a nice hike, and I enjoyed the ladders and the metal staircase under the power lines. Years ago while hiking Dog Mountain I saw the trail that switchbacks up the talus slope above the old wagon road. I followed the switchbacks up the talus slope knowing I had enough time to get to the top of Shellrock and still see the other things on my list. At the top of the talus slope there was a big pile of uprooted trees and bright red poison oak all over the place. I just did some research here and found a trip report by Peder that showed the rest of the trail in horrible shape.

      Thanks!
