The next morning, we were at the trailhead by 7. Cool weather, little wind, clear skies. An ideal day to climb a mountain. The trail was easy to follow for the first 2.5 miles even though there was still some snow in the woods. Higher up it got a little difficult to follow, but the direction was never in question. We reached the saddle between Humphrey’s and Agassiz, enjoying the sunshine and mild breeze. The elevation was having its effect with minor dizziness the entire climb, and slower than normal progress. The ridge was snow free, and 4 hours from the trailhead we reached the summit. There were only a few others on the trail, and when we reached the summit we had it to ourselves for 30 minutes. The weather remained nice, and the protection of the shelters on the summit allowed a wind-free stay. Some clouds were building, and not being too familiar with Humphrey’s weather, we decided to head down after an hour of so. An uneventful return to the car for a RT time of 8′ 25″.
Dinner and drinks in Flagstaff that evening, and a stop in Sedona on the way to the airport on Monday rounded out the trip. A good time was had by all.
