COMPREHENSIVE SCHEDULE – 2007 HIGHPOINTERS CLUB CONVENTION THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2007 

12:00 PM – 5:30 PM             Registration in lobby of Stoney Creek Inn

 FRIDAY, JULY 27, 2007 

8:00 AM – 5:15 PM                      Registration in lobby of Stoney Creek Inn

 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM            Meet at Stoney Creek Inn for carpooling for county highpoint trip (Leader: Doug Urban) and Poniatowski (45 degrees N; 90 degrees W) trip (Leader: Roger Rowlett) 

9:00 AM                                 Depart for County highpoint trip; trip directions available from Doug Urban; first stop is George W. Mead Wildlife area, S2148 County Hwy. S [in Wood County], Milladore, WI 54454; expected return about 2:30 PM.

9:00 AM                                 Depart for Poniatowski. Directions: Depart Stoney Creek and turn left; take onramp to I-39/US-51 north. Take US 29 west at exit 192. {CAUTION: Be alert for construction detours!] Go west on US-29 for 15 miles; turn right (north) at exit 150 on county road (CR)  H; go north 3.4 miles; turn left (west) on Cherry Lane.  Drive 1.4 miles to Poniatowski; continue west about 1/3 mile; turn right (north) on Meridian Road; small park is 0.2 miles on right side of road.  Expected return about 11:30 AM.

 12:30 PM                                Meet at Stoney Creek Inn for carpooling to Van Der Geest Dairy (No Leader Assigned) and for Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Factory (No Leader Assigned). 

1:00 PM                                  Depart for Van Der Geest Dairy. Tour scheduled to start at 1:30 PM.  Depart Stoney Creek and turn left; take onramp to I-39/US-51 north. Drive north about 12 miles to CR WW (exit 197); at base of offramp turn left (west) onto WW; go 1.2 miles to CR K; turn right (north) on K; go 1.3 miles; turn left (west) on CR A; dairy is 0.7 miles on your right, at 5555 County Highway A. Donation of $4.00 per person requested. Expected return about 4:30 PM.

1:00 PM                                  Departure for Harley Davidson Motorcycle Factory in Tomahawk. Tour scheduled to start at 2:00 PM. Depart Stoney Creek and turn left; take onramp to I-39/US-51 north. Drive north about 44 miles to WI-86/CR D (exit 229); at base of offramp turn left (west) onto WI-86; go 0.3 mile and turn left (south) onto Kaphaem Road; facility is 0.3 mile south, at 611 Kaphaem Road.  Admission free; tour about one hour, plus time in Visitor Center. .  Children under 12 NOT allowed on floor.  Fully-enclosed, low-heeled shoes required.  Expected return about 4:30 PM.

 5:00 PM                                  Meet at Stoney Creek Inn for carpooling to Stevens Point Brewery. Driving directions: Depart Stoney Creek and turn left; go under overpass and take onramp to I-39/US-51 south. Drive south about 32 miles to Business Route (BR) US-51 (exit 161).  At bottom of offramp turn right (south); continue south along BR US-51 (Division Street) for 2.7 miles; at triangular intersection turn right (southwest) onto Park Street; take third left (south) onto Water Street; drive 0.3 mile southeast to Stevens Point Brewery, 2617 Water Street.  Park in lot across the street.  Wear fully-enclosed, low-heeled shoes for tour. Please do NOT enter brewery prior to 5:45 PM to permit completion of setup for us.  You should plan to bring identification to prove you are over 21, as they will be checking. 

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM            Brewery tours, beer and root beer tasting, bratwurst fry, usual Liars’ Club activities.

9:00 PM                                  Friday activities completed.

 

 SATURDAY, JULY 28, 2007 

7:30 AM – 9:00 AM                     Registration in lobby of Stoney Creek Inn

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM            Departure for Pancake Breakfast near Timms Hill. Depart Stoney Creek and turn left; take onramp to I-39/US-51 north. Drive north about 44 miles to CR S (exit 225); at bottom of offramp turn left (west) under freeway, and then follow CR S northwest about five miles into Tomahawk.  Turn left (south) on S. Tomahawk Avenue (WI-86); it soon bears right (west).  Continue west about 24 miles until you see CR C (go PAST CR RR); turn left (south) and proceed 0.9 miles to CR RR (also known as Rustic Road RR).  Turn left (east) and go PAST the entrance to the County Park on your left; Highpoint Village is on your right, about 0.5 mile east of CR C.  Address is W3075 County Road RR. Follow directions to parking areas.

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM            Pancake breakfast at Highpoint Village.

9:00 AM – 3:00 PM            Hike to Timms Hill, along road or around Bass Lake.  Hero pictures, summit certificates, watermelon in shelter area.  Dedication of new summit recorder box (Highpointers Foundation). Excursion to Pearson Hill (update and directions provided at Convention). 

12:30 PM                                Departure from Timms Hill area for county highpoints and Poniatowski tour (Leader: Doug Urban).  Expected return to Stoney Creek Inn is about 4:00 PM.

1:00 PM                                  Departure from Timms Hill area for those wishing to attend 2:00 PM  tour of Van Der Geest Dairy; return to US-51, proceed south to exit 197 and follow directions as for Friday tour.

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM            Highpointers Club Board Meeting, Stoney Creek Inn, The Pines Room.

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM             Highpointers Foundation Meeting, Stoney Creek Inn, The Meadows Room.

5:00 PM                                  Happy Hour, Northwoods Convention Center, Stoney Creek Inn

6:00 PM                                  Banquet, Business Meeting, Selection of 2009 Convention site, Evening Program, Northwoods Convention Center, Stoney Creek Inn
