If you are interested in summiting Mt. Whitney in California, or Boundary Peak in Nevada please note it on your registration. The club will provide a list of other interested members to facilitate forming climbing groups.
Mt. Whitney: Permits are required so hikers will need to obtain either a Day Use or Overnight Mount Whitney Trail permit. Permits can be booked at Recreation.gov. For hikes occurring May 1 through November 1, a lottery permit is required.
The NPS lottery system can be found on Recreation.gov. Note: The the dates for 2025 lottery have not been published yet.
Important dates:
February 1st – March 15th: Mount Whitney Lottery application open Mid-March: Lottery results published Mid-April: Lottery winners must confirm permits. Mid-April -September: Check for unconfirmed lottery dates released to the public. Day-Of Climb permits can sometimes be obtained from the NPS/USFS Multi-Agency office in Lone Pine the day prior to a potential climb.
Boundary Peak: The Queen Mine Boundary Peak trail head is a 45 minute drive from Bishop, the last mile of which requires 4WD drive high clearance vehicle. Most vehicles of Subaru quality can make it to the Queen Mine and you can walk the last mile. The last mile of the trail is a strenuous climb through scree and talus.
Rock Climbing – Bouldering: The Red Rocks climbing area is a few hours away in Nevada. The Buttermilks formations are near Bishop. The Alabama Hills are just west of Lone Pine, an hour away.
Guide Services: Contact the Konvention Kommittee at hpclubca25@gmail.com for information about guides for Whitney, Boundary, other 14er’s and rock climbing.
