2026 West Virginia Convention Updates

2026 West Virginia Convention Host Alex de la Torre provided updated details on next year’s convention during the 2025 board meeting at the Highpointers Club Convention.

Highpointers will hit those Country Roads and head to the Cannan Valley Resort July 23-25, 2026 for the annual Convention. West Virginia, the 35th state to join the Union, will also be the 35th state to host a Highpointers Club Convention.

About Spruce Knob – West Virginia’s Highest Point

At 4,863 feet above sea level, Spruce Knob is the highest point in West Virginia and the summit of the Allegheny Mountains. Located within the Monongahela National Forest, Spruce Knob is renowned for its cool climate, sweeping vistas, and distinctive alpine character.

The summit is crowned by a stone observation tower, offering panoramic views of forested ridges, valleys, and the rugged beauty of the Appalachian Plateau. The area is named for the dense growth of red spruce trees that thrive at this elevation, giving the landscape a northern feel unusual for this latitude.

Spruce Knob is part of the larger Spruce Knob–Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, a destination for hiking, climbing, and outdoor exploration. Visitors can enjoy a network of trails, including sections of the Spruce Knob–Seneca Creek Backcountry which offers some of the state’s most remote and pristine hiking experiences.

As both the highest natural point in West Virginia and the highest peak in the Alleghenies, Spruce Knob stands as a symbol of the state’s wild, untamed spirit — a place where highpointers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts can connect with one of Appalachia’s most iconic landscapes.
