The September 2018 issue of Backpacker has a delightful 7-page story authored by Loren Mooney regarding her evolution from casual Hiker to dedicated Highpointer. It is insightful and humorous, especially her conclusions drawn from the quest. Do you recognize or relate to her observations?

My pal says that in climbing mountains the chanpion is the one who has the most fun. We make our own rules. I suggest that whoever climbs all the high points that existed when (s)he was born has “finished tagging all the high points.” Admittedly, those born after March 1959 have a harder task.
I loved the article and I guess I can relate. My brother once said to me, ” Do you have to climb a mountain? Why can’t you just visit? ” when I was visiting him and other relatives in Pennsylvania a few years back. I picked up the Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia high points on that trip and I also visited with family.
