Many thanks for Mohammed Ellzoy for writing the intial summary of the 2005 convention. This page will be changing with new information.
At the 2003 Highpointers Club Convention (often spelled Konvention by the faithful) the members voted to have the 2005 convention in New Hampshire, and the local organizers decided to hold it at the Purity Spring Resort in East Madison on the weekend of Labor day (September 2nd and 3rd, 2005). It is very much hoped that it will be possible to schedule an Open Date for Rhode Island on September 4th, allowing people to visit it on their way back from the convention.
There will be the usual Ice Cream Social on Friday evening, the Saturday morning Pancake Breakfast, followed by a variety of approaches to the summit (on foot, by auto or by train), and the Saturday evening Banquet, with Rick Wilcox as Keynote Speaker.
Less usual will be a possible traverse of the Presidential Range, a trip of some twenty plus miles with about 9,000 feet of elevation gain. It is currently tentatively scheduled for Saturday, unless the weather forecast is better for Friday.
County highpointing events are, as usual, being organized; Fred Lobdell writes: “We are trying to put together a schedule that will enable the 10 Granite State county HPs to be completed in 5 days in conjunction with the Konvention. … There may also be trips to neighboring VT and ME.” Note that East Madison is situated quite close to the Maine border, and is a very suitable base for doing at least some of the costal Maine highpoints. You may wish to read some notes Mohammed Ellzoy wrote about the Vermont county highpoints.
